Crushed van / car following accident

Today's tragic accident on the A472 between Crumlin and Maes-y-Cwmmer is the latest in a series of incidents on that section of road. Michael German, Assembly Member for South Wales East, said that all of Wales' major accident blackspots need better safety measures, in order to ensure the safety of road users.

"I was deeply saddened at the news of the fatal crash that took place on the A472 this morning. I use that road several times a day and know how dangerous it can be. The three-lane system used on that stretch of road was outdated before it was even constructed. A full scale inspection is needed now to determine the best method of modernising the road to ensure that such tragedies can be avoided in the future.

"My heart goes out to the families, pupils and teachers affected by this horrific accident. We must ensure every step is taken to avoid such a tragedy in the future."
