Wales Stuck In The Middle With Labour

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 26th Apr 2005

Welsh Liberal Democrat leader in the Assembly, Mike German, put First Minister Rhodri Morgan on the spot over the future of the Assembly in a question today.

Mr. German asked the First Minister to give a clear an unequivocal answer. Mr. Morgan refused to reply preferring to talk about the process of changes to the assembly not how the people of Wales would benefit.

Mr. German, said: "Labour are refusing to come up with any definite proposal. Under Labour, Wales is stuck waiting for Westminster to make its mind up. in the middle unable to have policies put in place.

"It is time Wales is no longer treated as second-class and is given the tools to do the job. A Welsh Parliament is the only way forward if we want better health, better education and a stronger economy. Labour is only muddling the issue and keeping Wales stuck in first gear.

"With Labour in a muddle, Plaid hell-bent on independence, and the Tories split three ways between ence, only the Welsh Liberal Democrats are offering a sensible and clear vision for the development of a law-making parliament for Wales."

Notes/Nodiadau:

In their General Election Manifesto the Welsh Liberal Democrats pledged to give Wales a Senedd (Parliament) with powers similar to that of the Scottish Parliament, so that the country has the tools it needs to improve our economy, health, education, housing and infrastructure.
