Mike German to chair Cornish devolution talks

One of Wales' leading devolution campaigners will be the special guest chair at a Conference on Cornish devolution this weekend.

Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly leader Mike German has been invited to chair the conference called by Cornish Lib Dems in Truro on Saturday. The event will look at how to campaign for greater devolution to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Mike German said: "Devolution isn't just about nations like Wales and Scotland having their own parliaments - it's about letting people make more decisions about the things that matter in their own lives. Just because Labour has shelved its half-hearted plans for regional Assemblies across England, it doesn't mean the idea of greater autonomy is dead.

"I'm delighted to have been asked to chair The Cornwall Conference, and look forward to hearing the debate."

The Cornwall Conference takes place on Saturday 12th November 2005 in the Trelawney Room, County Hall, Truro.
