Labour still failing Coleg Gwent - Mike German
5.00.25pm GMT Wed 7th Dec 2005
Mike German today called on the Labour Assembly Government to provide proper funding for Coleg Gwent, which suffered substantial budget cuts last year.
"Today I questioned the Minister for Education Jane Davidson on whether savings made from the ELWa merger could be ploughed back into frontline services, such as Coleg Gwent. The college suffered serious cuts to courses and staff redundancies last year when there was a funding deficit, and nothing has been done to improve the situation.
"In her answer, Jane Davidson claimed that FE Colleges will have surplus funds this year. This is unsurprising, since so many jobs and courses were cut in the previous year at Coleg Gwent. What I want to know is when will the Coleg Gwent services return to previous levels, before cuts were made?
When it comes to FE provision in South East Wales, Labour has been giving with one hand and taking away with the other."
