Dedicated helpline needed for Foster Carers - Mike German
3.25.00pm GMT Fri 20th Jan 2006
Local AM Mike German has supported a call from the Fostering Network for Wales for Welsh foster carers to have access to a dedicated confidential advice line - just like the service available to English carers.
The Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly leader said: "Since April 2005 foster carers in England have been able to phone 'Fosterline' for advice on their demanding role.
"Foster carers in Chepstow and Newport need access to help and support just as much as those in Cheltenham and Newcastle.
"Foster carers provide stability and care for looked after children but they need support themselves. There is a demand for an advice line to support them, but at the moment there are no resources behind the idea. That's why I am asking Brian Gibbons, the Welsh Assembly Health Minister if he plans to support the Fostering Network's application for funding".
