Labour have mishandled 'Bonfire of the Quangos' - Mike German
12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 31st Mar 2006
Commenting on today's 'Bonfire of the Quangos, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Leader Mike German said:
"Our problem with the mergers in to government of the WDA, WTB and ELWa has been the manner of their passing, not the event itself.
"The way Labour has handled it has been shocking. The absence of meaningful consultation and information for staff was a real backward step and greatly damaged staff morale.
Education Spokesperson Peter Black said: "We need an assurance that when ELWa is under the umbrella of the new education department, we are able to scrutinise it effectively and that transparency is not lost..
Mike German added: "It is a shame Rhodri Morgan failed to think through his actions and build a proper consensus. He could quite easily have built a popular case for these reforms - but Labour's narrow tribalism prevented them taking a wider view, and doing it properly.
