Mike German response to job losses at Continental Teves.12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 15th May 2006 Mike German has called on Enterprise Minister Andrew Davies to make an urgent statement tomorrow about latest manufacturing job losses in Blaenau Gwent. Car parts makers Continental Teves has announced they are to axe 350 jobs - on top of 70 previously announced. Mike German said: "Continental Teves is a major private sector employer in an area already devastated by the loss of steel production. This latest announcement is a hammer blow. "I will be calling on the Minister to identify when he knew and what assistance he's provided with his super new department to this company and when he knew that further job losses were coming. "As Minister for Economic Development in 2001 I visited Continental Teves and helped them get government support to invest in the factory and protect its long term future. It saddens me to see that they are now set to move to Slovakia. "This announcement reinforces the need for a complete rethink of the way in which jobs are brought in to the area and the urgency of connecting Ebbw Vale with a passenger rail link to Newport and Cardiff. There is a great need for speed and urgency."
