Help is on hand to help to reduce their energy consumption and carbon emissions

A leading assembly member for South East Wales has welcomed an energy saving scheme aimed at reduce energy use and carbon emission.

Michael German AM, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats in the National Assembly, was speaking as British Gas announced that over 600,000 thousand of their customers have expressed a willingness to help in combating global warming.

Mr. German said, "Householders can now get a free energy efficiency audit of their home and British Gas will give them tailored advice on how to reduce their energy consumption, as well as discounted measures to help with insulation costs.

"Saving energy is even more important now in the light of recent rises in wholesale gas and electricity prices. Although we had just seen the hottest weekend this year, we must not forget that fuel poverty is a serious issue in Wales and that many families and households face high energy costs in the approaching winter."

Mr. German added, "This scheme will have major benefits: helping to combat energy use, reduce consumption and help in the fight to limit global warming. Combating global warming is now a top priority for the Liberal Democrats, as it should be for anyone in public office."

The British Gas scheme is available for any householder. Under the scheme, people complete a questionnaire giving details of their home and energy consumption. British Gas then uses the data to pull together an Energy Savers Report for the house, based on each person's circumstances.
