TRW Job losses - Michael German comment:3.40.36pm GMT Wed 8th Nov 2006 Following the news that 128 jobs are to go at TRW Automotive in Pontypool, local Welsh Liberal Democrat AM Michael German said: "Following on from 156 job losses at the company in August 2005, this is yet another hammer blow for the community in Pontypool. "I will be asking the Minister for Enterprise an urgent question, to find out what he knows about the job losses and what he can do for the workers in my community. The factory is very close to my office in New Inn and I know how much it will affect the community there. "I hope the Minister had heeded the warning signs and that the relevant assistance will be given as swiftly as possible. "Motor vehicle component manufacturing has taken another hit and what was one of the strongest sectors in the Welsh economy is now under threat. "However, when you also consider the 420 automotive job losses announced this summer in Blaenau Gwent, the sector in my region is under threat. Rhodri Morgan has said he wants to be judged on his record in Wales, particularly with regard to employment. In Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen, he may just get his wish.
