Following the news that Brynmawr FM has been awarded a five-year Community Radio Licence by OFCOM, local Welsh Liberal Democrat AM Mike German said:
"This is great news for Blaenau Gwent and for the hardworking people at BRFM, who have put a lot of time and effort into creating a lively and inviting local radio station.
"I have visited the station when it was launched last year, and I was struck by the commitment of everyone who worked there. I believe the Community Radio Licence gives people in Brynmawr a great opportunity to be the producers, editors and presenters of their own news and entertainment.
"I wrote a letter of support for the application because I believe BRFM offers an important service. It provides free advertising for community events and the sports coverage highlights clubs who might not otherwise gain the publicity.
"I look forward to hearing more from BRFM over the next five years and congratulate them on winning the licence."
