Post Office plans not good enough - Michael German AM
12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 20th Jun 2007
Local Welsh Lib Dem AM Mike German has criticised plans to close the Caerphilly Crown Post Office and replace it with a smaller branch inside WH Smith.
Mr German said: "Nobody has asked the people of Caerphilly whether or not they want the Crown Post Office closed - we have only been consulted on the plans for a smaller service within the WH Smith branch. That's not good enough.
"The area around the Crown Post Office is due for major redevelopment and it makes no sense to it move away. I am concerned that people in Caerphilly will have reduced services.
"Post Offices are vital community services, and I am unhappy at these plans for Caerphilly. I have written to Postwatch Wales and the Post Office to express my disappointment. People in Caerphilly deserve better."
