Ian Wlaton selected to run for the Liberal Democrats in the Caerphilly constituency

The Welsh Liberal Democrats today announced Ian Walton will be their Candidate in Caerphilly at the next General Election.

Ian Walton (37), who works as the Party's Manager in Wales, fought Carmarthen East and Dinefwr at the last Assembly Election.

Ian said: "Caerphilly is a very different constituency to Carmarthen East & Dinefwr. I have always enjoyed taking on new challenges and I am ready to step up to the plate here in Caerphilly.

"I am very much looking forward to continuing the hard work already started by Liberal Democrat Members here in Caerphilly. There is a strong liberal heritage here in the constituency and we will be looking to tap into that, not only at the next general election, but also in next year's council elections where we will be looking to make gains, particularly at Labour's expense.

"For too long the people of Caerphilly have been taken for granted, and let down, by the Labour Party. I know that the Welsh Liberal Democrats can provide a home for all who feel abandoned by Labour. I aim to prove to the voters of this constituency that the Welsh Liberal Democrats are the only real alternative to Labour and together we can start to build a fair, green future for not only Caerphilly but also the people of Wales."

Welsh Liberal Democrat Leader, and local regional Assembly Member, Mike German said: " I'm looking forward to a great campaign from Ian. His passion and enthusiasm will offer the people of Caerphilly a real alternative.

"Whenever the election is called, I know Ian will be working hard to provide a fair green alternative for the people of Caerphilly.

"I'm looking forward to campaigning with Ian and local members in the run up to the election."
