Following the news that a decision is imminent over the Ebbw Valley railway, local AM and Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Michael German said: "People from Ebbw Vale down to Rogerstone want to know when they will be able to catch a train to Cardiff.

"The line opening has been delayed since before Christmas, and I hope that the opening has not been delayed so a grand official opening can be scheduled. These delays have gone on for far too long.

"Commuters in Blaenau Gwent deserve a decent service, and this matters more than cutting a red ribbon.

"People travelling from Llanhilleth and Cross Keys don't even know when their stations will be ready - and if the delays on the rest of the line are anything to go by, they be waiting for quite some time."

Notes:

The Leader of the House Carwyn Jones AM today announced that a meeting of the project delivery team at Blaenau Gwent Council will take place tomorrow, after which there would be a statement on the status of the line.
